Making Memories: The Abbey Resort Hosts “Spring Into Scrapbooking” This May
Lorraine’s Memories of Woodstock Featured in Weekend of Creative Classes

FONTANA, WI – April 15, 2010 –“Scrap” your weekend plans this May 14-16 and gather some girlfriends, your favorite photos and a pair of scissors. The Abbey Resort & Spa, located on the shores of Lake Geneva, Wis., will be hosting “Spring Into Scrapbooking,” a special getaway weekend featuring three days of cropping fun plus discounted spa services, guided lake path tours, and delicious resort fare at the Abbey’s highly-regarded restaurants.

From May 14-16, scrapbookers can share ideas with other enthusiasts, learn new techniques from the pros, enjoy scrapbooking challenges and win free prizes and giveaways. Lorraine’s Memories of Woodstock, Ill., will be facilitating the event and providing their on-site store for additional materials. Each guest will have an 8-foot table with electrical access for the weekend in the Wisconsin Ballroom.
“This special weekend is all about sharing your memories through scrapbooking while making new ones with the other guests – it’s a great way to introduce people who share an interest in this popular hobby,” said Sue Thune, activity director at The Abbey Resort & Spa. “At the same time, we’ve built in some extra goodies from spa discounts to walks on the lake path so ladies can make a complete weekend getaway out of this experience.”
The weekend opens on Friday, May 14, with a welcome reception in the Harbor Ballroom Foyer from 6-7 p.m. with complimentary wine, beer, soda and hors d’oeuvres (full cash bar as well). Guests may partake of an Avani Spa tour, enjoy dinner at their leisure in the Waterfront Restaurant or the Fontana Grill, and get their creative juices flowing right away in the “cropping area” in the Wisconsin Ballroom, open from 3 p.m.-2 a.m. At 9 p.m., Lorraine’s Memories will be conducting a special “make and take” session for an additional fee.

Saturday’s scrapbooking offers a morning class at 10 a.m. by Lorraine’s Memories (fee-based) with fun giveaways throughout the day and night; a special “Spring Into Scrapbooking” dinner featuring “Pasta Perfection” build-your-own pasta at 6:30 p.m.; and a scrapbooking challenge with prizes starting at 9 p.m. The “cropping area” will be open from 8 a.m.-2 a.m.

Finally, Sunday includes another class by Lorraine’s Memories at 10 a.m. (fee-based) with the “cropping area” open from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. before the event comes to an end. Giveaways and a Scrapbooking Scavenger Hunt will run throughout the weekend. A continuous beverage station will be available during the event, and an assortment of Danishes and muffins will be served on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

“In addition to the main event, guests can take a break from the action with a host of other resort activities at The Abbey throughout the weekend, including cycling, lawn games, bonfires, and movies, as well as some special events planned specifically for our scrapbooking guests,” said Thune.

Attendees can get up bright and early both Saturday and Sunday mornings for a one-hour guided lake path walk, stepping off at 7:30 a.m. Attendees will have free entry to the Avani Spa for one day, plus a 20 percent discount on spa services Friday and Sunday. Nightly entertainment can be enjoyed including vocalist Tom Stanfield on the piano Friday and Saturday nights in the Helm Cocktail Lounge, or Triple D band live in the Waterfront Restaurant.
