AVANI SPA MOUNTS JUNE FOOD DRIVE FOR LAKELAND ANIMAL SHELTER
Spa patrons receive a discount on services for donated pet products

FONTANA, WI – May 28, 2009 – At a time when the number of animals available for adoption is on the rise
and the need for pet food and supplies is urgent, AVANI Spa at The Abbey Resort has launched a food drive to
assist the Lakeland Animal Shelter with its growing number of animals available for adoption.
Through the month of June, all patrons of AVANI Spa will receive a five percent discount on all services per
donated item with a maximum discount of 20 percent. Donated items will be brought to the shelter at the end of
the month.

“We’re pleased to help Lakeland Animal Shelter and offer a special incentive that benefits our customers and
helps our four-legged friends,” said Cherie Lininger, spa director of AVANI Spa. “We hope our efforts and the
generosity of our customers goes a long way in prolonging the health and wellbeing of the animals currently
housed at the shelter.”

According to Lakeland Animal Shelter, the summer months see a spike in animals brought to the facility.
“We’ll see upwards of 400 kittens and cats brought into the shelter in June,” said Alexandrea Dahlstrom,
fundraising director of the Lakeland Animal Shelter.

“June is a crucial month for the shelter as our need for kitten and cat food, litter, kitten milk replacer and baby
bottles increases greatly. We’re also in need of cleaning supplies including bleach and washing machine
detergent as we’ll do 30 loads of laundry each day during the summer. Donations of canned dog food are also
needed as we have reached our full population of dogs at the shelter.”

To assist in adoptions, Lakeland Animal Shelter is hosting an adopt-a-thon, June 13 – 14, with adoption fees
reduced $25 now through June 14. “Monetary donations are always appreciated, but donations of food and
animal supplies are invaluable at this time of the year,” Dahlstrom added. “We appreciate the assistance from
AVANI Spa and hope everyone visiting the resort will donate and take advantage of the discounted spa
services.”
